Merle Augustin is a producer-director. She grew up in Haiti and Canada, spent time on the sunny coast of South Florida honing her knack for storytelling in newsrooms and eventually made her way to New York to study Film at Columbia University.
She has produced a variety of shorts and features, including The Jerome Project, a short documentary directed by visual artist Titus Kaphar and produced by Dave Mathews’ Stolen Sky Productions in 2016. She also produced Warlord, the 2007 South by Southwest Grand Jury winner and the feature Ten Stories Tall, the 2010 Best Screenplay winner at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Merle’s films have played at numerous film festivals including the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Palm Beach International Film Festival. Merle is currently in development on a feature and two TV series.
She also directs and occasionally writes, and is alway looking for like-minded collaborators and opportunities to ply her craft. She directed a documentary, two shorts and three webisodes. Merle’s pursuits has been supported by several organizations. She was the recipient of the NYWIFT Scholarship Fund at Columbia University, a fellow of La Femis Directing Seminar in Paris and most recently, a 2017 fellow of the Black Women Film! Canada Leadership Program.
